Vehicle Operator (CDL) - Night Shift

About the role

Waabi is building autonomous trucks and needs experienced drivers for its night‑shift operations at the Lancaster, TX terminal. As a Vehicle Operator you will manually drive Class 8 combination vehicles, supervise autonomous runs, and provide critical feedback to improve the self‑driving system.

Key responsibilities

• Manually drive Class 8 commercial and passenger vehicles for mapping, shadow missions, yard moves, transports, drayage, scouting and repositioning.
• Operate autonomous Class 8 trucks on public roads and test tracks in supervised mode, ready to assume manual control at any moment.
• Complete pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections in Fleetio with clear photo documentation and support the Enhanced Inspection Program.
• Maintain accurate Motive ELD records throughout the overnight shift and manage Hours of Service compliance.
• Exit the cab for visual assessments, use standard hand signals and spotters for tight maneuvers.
• Follow platform‑specific SOPs, power‑on sequencing and overnight charging procedures.
• Operate customer loads to committed gate, departure and arrival times, verify vehicle condition and communicate delays early.
• Provide detailed, specific feedback on vehicle performance to engineers and support the Fleet Specialist with high‑quality annotations.
• Assist fleet technicians, uphold 5‑S standards and contribute to a culture of safety excellence.

Required profile

• Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a valid DOT medical certification.
• Minimum three years recent commercial driving experience with combination vehicles.
• Exemplary motor‑vehicle record, background check and DOT drug/alcohol screening.
• Proven ability to use an electronic logging device and manage Hours of Service independently.
• Willingness to work overnight, weekends, holidays and flexible shift patterns.
• Collaborative team player able to give clear verbal and written feedback.
• Basic computer skills and quick learning of Waabi’s inspection tools.
• Passion for self‑driving technology and solving complex problems.

Required skills

• Proficiency with electronic logging devices (ELD).
• Experience using the Motive ELD platform.
• Familiarity with the Fleetio inspection system.
