Transportation Design and Planning Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Transportation Design & Planning Engineer to lead and support active‑transportation projects across Utah and the Intermountain West. The role blends technical design with planning work, focusing on trails, shared‑use paths, bike lanes, and complete streets that improve mobility and quality of life.

Key responsibilities

• Lead planning and design of active‑transportation facilities, including trails, bike lanes, and complete streets.
• Prepare corridor studies, concept studies, feasibility analyses, and NEPA/PEL‑related documents.
• Develop technical memoranda, reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Apply AASHTO, UDOT, and local agency standards to create safe, constructible solutions.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (traffic, drainage, structures, utilities, right‑of‑way).
• Support project management tasks such as scope, schedule, budget, and quality control.
• Analyze transportation, land‑use, and mobility data to inform design decisions.
• Participate in public and stakeholder engagement, delivering presentations and workshops.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
• Assist with client relationships and business development as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Utah.
• 5–10 years of experience in transportation engineering or planning.
• Experience with active‑transportation, trail, or multimodal projects.
• Strong knowledge of AASHTO design guidelines for bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
