Tooling Process Engineer

About the role

The Tooling Process Engineer will drive the design and development of precision tooling that enables the creation of innovative products at 3M. Working closely with research, development, and manufacturing teams, you will translate concepts into high‑quality molds and ensure smooth technology transfer from lab to production.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop specialized tooling and precision‑machined molds based on stakeholder requirements.
• Transfer new processes from laboratory environments to manufacturing plants for product commercialization.
• Oversee laboratory tooling activities, including process optimization, quality enhancement, and metrology.
• Collaborate with NTI/NPI teams to create tooling designs from concept through launch.
• Measure, statistically analyze, and summarize large data sets related to optical film inspection and tooling performance.
• Engage production staff to implement improvements in micro‑replication tool manufacturing and test methods.
• Drive continuous improvement and process optimization for tooling and product quality.
• Develop, document, and implement new test methods and create intellectual property documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum six months of CAD/CAM experience in a private, public, government, or military setting.
• Experience with metrology techniques such as white‑light interferometry or optical microscopy is a plus.
