Temporary Staff Attorney (NYC)

About the role

Safe Passage Project seeks a Temporary Staff Attorney to join its NYC office from October 2026 through March 2027. The attorney will provide direct representation to immigrant children in immigration and related proceedings and mentor pro bono counsel.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct representation to Safe Passage Project clients.
• Supervise and mentor pro bono attorneys within the organization.
• Screen immigrant children and assist in organizing legal screenings.
• Prepare detailed reporting statistics for each case handled.

Required profile

• J.D. degree and admission to a state bar (NY bar preferred).
• At least two years of family law or immigration law experience.
• Excellent written, analytical, oral, organizational, and time‑management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
• Fluency in Spanish.
• Understanding of trauma‑centered practices or willingness to learn them.
• Demonstrated ability to interact effectively across cultures and diverse backgrounds.
• Commitment to Safe Passage Project’s mission and readiness to grow with the team.
