Systems & Simulation Engineering Intern – Robotics R&D

About the role

This internship in Santa Clara focuses on systems and simulation engineering for medical robotics. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to model, simulate, and validate robotic surgical platforms, contributing to improved patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute system‑level and subsystem‑level simulations for robotic surgical platforms.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, and software engineers to model system behavior and evaluate design performance.
• Analyze simulation and test data, identify trends, and provide recommendations for engineering decisions.
• Support requirements development, traceability, and verification planning.
• Assist with system architecture studies, trade‑off analyses, and interface definition activities.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in Systems Engineering, Robotics, Mechanical/Electrical/Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics or related field.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
• Self‑starter with ability to work independently and strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Available full‑time for the internship term (June‑August 2027) and authorized to work in the United States.

Required skills

• Fundamental understanding of dynamics, controls, robotics, and system modeling.
• Experience with simulation and analysis tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS, Abaqus, Simscape, Gazebo, or similar.
• Programming proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C++ or comparable languages.
• Familiarity with finite element analysis, multibody dynamics, and controls simulation.
• Exposure to Model‑Based Systems Engineering tools (SysML, JAMA, DOORS) is a plus.
