Staff Mechanical & Actuated Systems Engineer

About the role

Are you a passionate and innovative product design engineer looking to help develop state‑of‑the‑art AI and aircraft products? Shield AI seeks a Staff Mechanical & Actuated Systems Engineer to contribute to the mechanical design of autonomous UAVs on the X‑BAT platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design complex electro‑mechanical or hydro‑mechanical mechanisms for autonomous aircraft, including uplocks, doors, flight controls, landing gear, and wing fold.
• Own the full design process from concept through CAD, analysis, tolerance stack‑ups, material selection, and drawing release.
• Perform structural and kinematic calculations, preliminary FEA, and prototype, test, and iterate designs for functionality and reliability.
• Collaborate with electrical, avionics, hydraulics, flight controls, and propulsion teams and support pre‑production builds and ground/flight testing.

Required profile

• B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 7+ years of experience in mechanical or mechanism design.
• Strong CAD skills (NX preferred) and ability to work independently in fast‑paced, cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Kinematic analysis and optimization.
• Structural analysis using hand calculations and finite element methods (modal, non‑linear, linear, buckling, fatigue).
• GD&T and tolerance stack‑ups.
• Materials selection including alloys, heat treatments, allowables, and finishes.
