Staff Electrical Engineer – Hardware Test

About the role

Shield AI is looking for a Staff Electrical Engineer to define and lead the electrical test‑equipment strategy for its X‑BAT aircraft. You will be the technical authority for a portfolio of test capabilities, shaping architecture, standards, and safety practices while staying hands‑on with schematics, hardware, and lab operations.

Key responsibilities

• Own the strategy, architecture, and roadmap for electrical test equipment supporting avionics, power, communications, and actuation subsystems.
• Define common architectures for racks, stands, interface units, power‑insertion, instrumentation, data acquisition, automation, and operator interfaces.
• Lead complex test‑equipment programs from requirements through design, build, integration, acceptance, deployment, and sustainment.
• Establish system‑safety expectations, hazard analysis, interlocks, emergency stops, and verification of protective functions.
• Partner with systems and design engineering to embed testability, observability, and fault isolation into aircraft designs.

Required profile

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related STEM discipline (or equivalent experience).
• 8+ years of experience developing complex electrical hardware, automated test equipment, or multidisciplinary verification systems.
• Proven record of delivering hardware from ambiguous requirements through release and sustained operation.
• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical standards across teams.

Required skills

• Power electronics, analog and digital circuit design.
• RF and communications engineering.
• Instrumentation, data acquisition, and control systems.
• Signal integrity, grounding, and system safety (hazard analysis, FMEA, fault‑tree analysis).
• PCB and harness design, calibration, and test equipment automation.
• Familiarity with standards such as DO‑160, MIL‑STD‑810, MIL‑STD‑461, IPC, IEEE, NFPA 70E.
