Sr. Software Engineer - Android Display & Graphics

About the role

The Infotainment Platform team at Rivian Volkswagen Technologies is building the next‑generation Android‑based in‑vehicle experience for future electric vehicles. As a Senior Software Engineer you will own the architecture and implementation of the display subsystem, ensuring that visual content moves from applications to screens efficiently and reliably.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain the display pipeline on Android (SurfaceFlinger, Window Manager, Hardware Composer HAL) and on non‑Android platforms (Wayland/Weston, OpenWF Display on QNX/Linux).
• Engineer multi‑display topologies for instrument clusters, central infotainment, passenger displays, and rear‑seat entertainment.
• Partner with automotive SoC vendors to bring up and validate new display panels and interfaces across Android and non‑Android stacks.
• Analyze and optimize the graphics pipeline for 60 FPS+ performance, low latency, and efficient memory bandwidth.
• Integrate and debug display drivers, ensuring proper communication between Android Framework and Kernel (DRM/KMS).
• Investigate and resolve stability issues such as screen freezes, black screens, graphical artifacts, ANRs, and native crashes.

Required profile

• Senior‑level software engineer with deep expertise in Android display systems.
• Proven experience bringing up automotive SoC display hardware and drivers.
• Ability to work across Android and non‑Android (QNX, Linux) platforms.
• Strong problem‑solving skills for performance tuning and stability debugging.
