Spacecraft Flight Software Engineer (P2) – Space Systems

About the role

Join Oceaneering’s team supporting NASA’s JETS II contract as a Spacecraft Flight Software Engineer. You will develop, refactor, integrate, and sustain human‑rated flight software for NASA’s space vehicles, working directly with NASA discipline leads and multi‑contractor teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop deterministic C/C++ code for embedded flight software and refactor legacy modules.
• Support subsystem interface updates, fault‑management logic improvements, and hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing.
• Participate in verification campaigns, analyze anomalies, and ensure software readiness for flight certification.
• Collaborate on modernizing flight software architecture and delivering Class A certifiable software.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Computer, Software, Electrical, or Aerospace) and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience; 5 years of real‑time, safety‑critical embedded software development is preferred.
• Willingness to work onsite at NASA JSC and complete government background investigations.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C and C++ for embedded systems.
• Experience with real‑time operating systems such as RTEMS, VxWorks, or cFS.
• Deterministic scheduling, interrupt handling, low‑level driver development, and subsystem interface implementation.
• Python for tooling, test automation, and analysis scripts.
• Familiarity with aerospace software safety standards (NASA STD 8739.8, NPR 7150.2).
