Software Engineer

About the role

Opendoor is looking for software engineers of any experience level to join a hybrid team (four days onsite, one day remote). You will be placed where you can have the most impact and enjoy the work, rather than being assigned to a specific team on day one.

Key responsibilities

• Build production systems that real customers and real money depend on.
• Own features end‑to‑end, from design through deployment and beyond.
• Lead and participate in technical design reviews.
• Use AI tools daily and help push their capabilities further than anyone else in the industry.
• Review code, mentor teammates, and raise the overall quality bar.
• Bridge the gap between infrastructure and product teams.

Required profile

• Ship code consistently, balancing perfection with timely delivery.
• Think in first principles and have strong opinions on architecture, distributed systems, and technology trade‑offs.
• Language‑agnostic mindset; expertise is valued over loyalty to a specific stack.
• Integrate modern AI tools into daily workflow to accelerate development.
• Communicate clearly through design docs, code reviews, and stakeholder discussions.
• Believe in Opendoor’s mission and enjoy collaborating with a high‑trust, process‑light team.
