Shoreline Maintenance Technician – Full-Time

About the role

The Shoreline Maintenance Technician is responsible for preserving and maintaining the beach, dune, and bay facilities of South Padre Island. This full‑time position supports the City’s coastal infrastructure, ensuring safe and clean access points, boat ramps, and related amenities.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain records of inspections and maintenance activities.
• Clean, check, and store City equipment, tools, and radios after use.
• Operate vehicles and heavy equipment to load, haul, and unload sand, gravel, seaweed, and debris.
• Perform construction and maintenance tasks as part of a crew, including operating power construction equipment.
• Remove beach debris, trash, and marine animal remains by hand or equipment.
• Assist with sample collection and data processing.
• Conduct preventative maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• Inspect and maintain shoreline infrastructure such as dune walkovers, access points, showers, restrooms, parking areas, boat ramps, and bulkheads.
• Carry out landscaping duties (mowing, weeding) within beach accesses and street‑ending areas.
• Perform carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work as required.

Required profile

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and during busy periods.
• Willingness to work early mornings, late evenings, and be on call as needed.
• Physical capability to lift, carry, and operate heavy equipment.
• Commitment to follow safety and security standards.
