Maintenance Technician – Convention Center (Full-Time)

About the role

The Convention & Visitors Bureau of South Padre Island is seeking a full‑time Maintenance Technician to support the South Padre Island Convention Centre. Reporting to the Facilities Director, you will ensure the facility is clean, safe, and ready for a wide variety of events.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning of floors, including sweeping, mopping, waxing, and buffing.
• Set up, break down, and change over furniture, staging, and equipment for events.
• Operate lifts, forklifts, high lifts, and scissor lifts to move equipment and install signage.
• Maintain HVAC, electrical, fire pump, and sprinkler systems, including monthly fire pump testing.
• Handle plumbing, painting, and minor repairs as needed.
• Connect phone and electrical lines for vendors and support vendor table setup.
• Manage inventory of supplies, chemicals, and equipment; order purchasing items per city policies.
• Perform shipping and receiving duties and maintain accurate records.
• Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet event schedules.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with coursework in HVAC or electrical systems.
• At least one year of related maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred.
