Senior Traffic Engineer – Signals, ITS & Lighting

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to lead complex transportation projects focused on traffic signals, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and roadway lighting. The role combines project management with technical leadership, serving clients and public agencies across Utah and the western United States.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and deliver signal, ITS, and lighting projects from planning through construction support.
• Develop project scope, budgets, schedules, and staffing plans.
• Prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical memoranda.
• Ensure compliance with MUTCD, FHWA, AASHTO, and local agency standards.
• Act as primary technical contact for clients, agencies, and stakeholders.
• Provide quality control reviews and mentor junior engineers.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to support integrated project delivery.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; PTOE certification preferred.
• 8+ years of traffic or transportation engineering experience, including project management.
• Experience with design‑build or alternative delivery methods is a plus.

Required skills

• MicroStation OpenRoads or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Traffic analysis tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS, or SIDRA.
