Senior Robotics Engineer

About the role

KION Group is seeking a Senior Robotics Engineer to lead the development of foundational software for mobile robotic systems in the Americas region. This hybrid role combines on‑site collaboration in Grand Rapids with remote work flexibility.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and develop core C++ software for embedded, simulation, and deployment environments.
• Drive creation of robust tools, frameworks, and best‑practice engineering processes.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers and guide technical direction.
• Collaborate with robotics, cloud, and systems teams on multi‑functional projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics or related field (Ph.D. a plus).
• 8+ years of professional C++ software engineering experience in robotics.
• Proven leadership or technical ownership experience.

Required skills

• Modern C++ (C++17/20), STL, memory management, performance tuning.
• Linux development, debugging and profiling tools.
• ROS/ROS2 or similar robotics frameworks.
• Multi‑threaded, distributed or real‑time systems.
• Scripting with Python/Bash.
• Middleware such as DDS, ZeroMQ, gRPC; containerization and orchestration tools.
