Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – MEP

About the role

The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead mechanical design for facility and water/wastewater pump station projects. You will guide projects from concept through construction, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver innovative, high‑quality solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design for facility and water/wastewater pump station projects, including process piping, HVAC, and equipment layouts.
• Develop detailed design packages: plans, sections, details, P&IDs, and specifications.
• Perform pump and pipe flow calculations, system curve analyses, and equipment sizing.
• Design heat‑trace, insulation, and freeze‑protection systems for indoor and outdoor installations.
• Evaluate and select mechanical equipment such as pumps, valves, piping, heat exchangers, and supports.
• Participate in design reviews, quality checks, and ensure compliance with codes and constructability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 7–12+ years of mechanical design experience in facilities, water/wastewater, pump stations, or industrial process environments.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D modeling and mechanical design software (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar).
• Strong knowledge of process piping, pump systems, flow calculations, and equipment sizing.
• Experience designing heat‑trace and freeze‑protection systems.
• Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (ASME, NFPA, IPC, AWWA).
