About the role
The Senior Manager, Crisis Management & Emergency Preparedness – North America will establish regional governance, capabilities and partnerships to anticipate, prepare for, respond to and recover from material disruptions across BASF’s North American operations. This role provides strategic leadership for crisis management, emergency preparedness, incident escalation and operational readiness.
Key responsibilities
- Establish the regional crisis‑management and emergency‑preparedness framework, standards and capability roadmap.
- Coordinate regional crisis escalation, delivering scenarios, trade‑offs and decision requirements to senior leaders.
- Lead risk‑based planning, assessments, exercises and corrective‑action governance to strengthen preparedness.
- Manage direct reports and the regional emergency‑response network, fostering capability and cross‑site learning.
- Translate incidents, near‑misses and exercises into systemic improvements and ensure timely closure of findings.
- Govern critical response services and infrastructure such as hotline, transportation response, TRACER, contractors and mutual‑aid relationships.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree (degree in Emergency Management, Safety, Security or Engineering preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of experience in emergency response, crisis management or industrial EHS leadership, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
- Proven experience leading multi‑site emergency preparedness and incident response programs.
- Advanced knowledge of crisis‑management principles, escalation protocols and Incident Command System structures.
- Strong enterprise and change leadership, decision‑making under pressure and stakeholder engagement.
- Spanish‑language proficiency (desirable) and relevant certifications (ICS/NIMS, Certified Emergency Manager, CBCP, hazardous‑materials).
Required skills
- Incident Command System (ICS) structures.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) training.
- Certified Emergency Manager credential.
- Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) credential.
- Hazardous‑materials or industrial‑response certification.
