Senior HW Systems Engineer

About the role

Waabi is a leader in Physical AI, building technology for autonomous trucks and robotaxis. The company is expanding its Pittsburgh team and seeks a senior hardware systems engineer to turn product guidance into robust hardware designs.

Key responsibilities

• Decompose product guidance into use cases and functional requirements.
• Define architectures and requirement sets for assigned system‑level areas.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and domain engineers throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Author and maintain systems‑engineering artifacts to accelerate hardware development.
• Unblock multidisciplinary teams by providing new perspectives, requirements, and influence.
• Use data and engineering experience to qualify work products and ensure designs meet organizational goals.
• Foster a culture of collaboration and learning across groups.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least 4 years of experience (or advanced degrees totaling 8 years).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for architecture and trade‑off decisions.
• Experience designing, implementing, and testing complex hardware‑software systems in aerospace, autonomous systems, or large‑scale computing.
• Experience with safety, security, and other non‑functional attributes of system design.
• Expertise in systems‑engineering analysis methods and creation of artifacts such as activity diagrams, functional decompositions, FMEAs, and test plans.
• Good technical risk sensitivity for decision‑making with limited information.
• Familiarity with translating industry standards into testable requirements; knowledge of ISO 26262 is a plus.
• Experience with model‑based systems‑engineering tools (e.g., Jama, Polarion) and requirements‑management databases is a plus.
• Passion for self‑driving technologies and solving hard problems.
