Senior Engineering Manager – Physical Infrastructure

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Manager of Engineering to lead the physical‑infrastructure program for xAI’s hyperscale AI compute facilities. The role will own the design, development and optimisation of structural, civil, architectural, electrical, mechanical, controls and fiber‑optic systems that power our rapidly expanding super‑computing clusters. It is a full‑time, onsite position with regular travel to project sites and vendor locations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end engineering of data‑center infrastructure, including foundations, seismic design, site development and underground utilities.
• Oversee architectural layout, code compliance, aesthetics and buildability of facilities.
• Design and manage high‑voltage electrical systems, switchgear, UPS, generators and redundancy topologies.
• Specify and integrate mechanical systems such as HVAC, liquid‑cooling, chillers and CRAC/CRAH units.
• Implement controls and automation solutions (BMS, SCADA, PLCs, monitoring).
• Deploy high‑capacity fiber‑optic networks for backbone and data‑hall connectivity.
• Develop technical standards, design guidelines and best practices for power density, thermal management, structural integrity, seismic resilience, uptime (99.999%+), and efficiency (PUE/WUE optimisation).
• Build, mentor and grow a multidisciplinary engineering team covering all listed disciplines.
• Partner with construction, operations, procurement and AI‑hardware teams to ensure seamless integration.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in data‑center or industrial‑scale infrastructure engineering.
• Proven ability to execute large‑scale projects rapidly and deliver reliable, high‑density, energy‑efficient systems.
• Hands‑on leadership style with strong communication and prioritisation skills.
• Willingness to travel frequently to project sites and vendor locations.
• Full‑time availability with an onsite work setting.
