Senior Architect – Transportation Structures

About the role

The State of California, through Caltrans, is seeking a Senior Architect to lead the design of transportation‑related buildings and structures. Reporting to the Office Chief, you will oversee a team of architects, ensuring high‑quality design solutions that support the agency’s mission of improving lives and communities through transportation.

Key responsibilities

• Direct, plan, and coordinate architectural design work for transportation facilities.
• Manage staff in the development and production of architectural plans, specifications, and reports.
• Review and approve design documents, ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
• Schedule, assign, and monitor work progress, maintaining quality control.
• Provide liaison services to Districts and Headquarters units on design matters.
• Prepare technical reports and documentation for senior leadership.

Required profile

• Professional degree in Architecture or related field.
• Significant experience in architectural design for public or transportation projects.
• Demonstrated supervisory or team‑lead experience.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid (onsite/remote) environment.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
