Senior AI/Machine Learning Specialist

About the role

3M is building a brand‑new AI architecture and technical category. As a Senior AI/Machine Learning Specialist you will be a hands‑on senior individual contributor, technical lead, and software architect turning Python research prototypes into scalable, production‑grade Rust systems.

Key responsibilities

• Convert experimental Python code into reliable, high‑performance Rust components.
• Design and implement runtime modules for real‑time inference, near‑real‑time reasoning, large offline simulations, and cloud/on‑prem/edge deployments.
• Make critical decisions on concurrency, parallel execution, memory management, IPC and distributed processing.
• Profile CPU, memory, latency and throughput, identify bottlenecks and deliver measurable improvements.
• Define stable, modular interfaces that protect IP while enabling subsystem development.
• Build observability, CI/CD pipelines, containerization and deployment capabilities for cloud and on‑prem environments.
• Mentor early‑career developers and model low‑ego, hands‑on technical leadership.
• Contribute to inventions, patents and conference publications as required.

Required profile

• Senior‑level AI software developer with a strong research‑to‑production mindset.
• Experience collaborating with researchers and senior engineers/architects.
• Proven ability to lead technical design and deliver production‑ready code.
