Senior Academic Advisor

About the role

The Senior Academic Advisor provides expert guidance to students, helping them navigate academic requirements, select courses, and achieve their educational goals while mentoring junior advisors and contributing to retention strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic advising grounded in NACADA best practices, including course selection, registration, academic planning, and career goal setting.
• Manage and coordinate advising projects, workshops, outreach events, and retention initiatives across the campus.
• Lead campus‑wide retention programs, serve on committees, and supervise junior advisors and student employees.

Required profile

• Master’s degree with at least five years of academic advising experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Strong knowledge of student development theory and higher‑education policies, with ability to maintain confidentiality (FERPA).

Required skills

• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
• Experience using student information systems and degree‑planning tools such as Banner, Degree Works, Navigate 360, Argos, and Laserfiche.
