Safety Hazmat Technician – Emergency Response

About the role

R+L Carriers is seeking a Safety Hazmat Technician for its Burlington Township, NJ service‑center office. Reporting to the Director of Safety, the technician will lead emergency response and hazardous‑materials clean‑up activities while ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to emergencies involving hazardous and non‑hazardous materials, including site remediation and equipment decontamination.
• Handle, containerize, and document hazardous materials in accordance with R+L procedures.
• Audit incoming and outgoing hazardous‑material shipments for regulatory compliance.
• Set up and participate in live training events to maintain personnel competency.
• Lead safety initiatives, coach co‑workers on unsafe behaviors, and maintain detailed safety documentation.

Required profile

• 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
• Physically able to lift up to 75 lb and work in high‑pressure, fast‑paced environments.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
• Willingness to travel for specialized projects and training sessions.

Required skills

• HAZWOPER certification (40‑hour).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Experience operating tools and equipment used in emergency response and hazardous‑material handling.
