Refund Specialist – Patient Financial Services

About the role

Kingman Healthcare Inc. is seeking a full‑time Refund Specialist to join its Patient Financial Services team. The role focuses on processing patient and insurance refunds accurately while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and state unclaimed property regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare Refund Request Forms and supporting documentation to issue refunds promptly.
• Follow up on uncleared checks, research returned checks, and manage voids, reissues, and stop‑payment requests with Accounts Payable.
• Apply state unclaimed property laws for uncashed refund checks and maintain HIPAA confidentiality.
• Review and respond to patient and insurance refund/offset requests and provide analysis of refund trends.
• Identify contractual adjustments by comparing billed amounts to Medicare, Medicaid, and managed‑care allowances.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of experience in medical billing, accounts receivable, or cash reconciliation in a hospital or clinic setting.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD‑9 coding, and billing workflows.
• Ability to read and analyze Explanation of Benefits (EOB) or Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA).
