Programme Management and Data Intern

About the role

The Programme Management and Data Intern will join the Digital Transformation Team (DTT) within the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) at UN Headquarters in New York. The role supports the implementation of the Strategy for Digital Transformation of UN Peacekeeping, combining programme management, stakeholder coordination and data‑driven research.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in programme management and coordination of digital transformation initiatives across headquarters and field missions.
• Support governance mechanisms, including project reviews, monitoring progress and preparing briefing materials.
• Contribute to innovation activities such as ideation workshops, prototyping, pilot projects, challenges and hackathons.
• Engage with end‑users and stakeholders to gather requirements, test solutions and document feedback.
• Conduct background research on emerging technologies, artificial intelligence and data‑driven approaches, synthesising findings into reports and recommendations.
• Help improve the peacekeeping data ecosystem through data collection, management, analysis, visualisation and reporting.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a university programme (undergraduate or graduate) related to international affairs, public policy, data science, information technology or a similar field.
• Strong interest in digital transformation, innovation and peacekeeping operations.
• Excellent analytical and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural UN environment.
