Procurement Officer

About the role

The Department of Operational Support within the United Nations seeks a Procurement Officer to join its Transportation & Life Support Service, Procurement Division. Reporting to a Team Leader, the incumbent will support UN Headquarters, field missions and other UN entities by delivering high‑quality procurement services and business advice.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, develop and manage procurement and contractual aspects of complex, worldwide projects covering a wide range of goods and services such as information technology, electronic equipment, vehicles, medicines, foodstuffs, construction materials, office supplies and furniture.
• Advise requisitioning units and recipient entities on procurement issues, providing guidance throughout the procurement cycle.
• Prepare and oversee the distribution of invitations to tender, and manage all stages of bid and proposal evaluation.
• Formulate strategies and design innovative solutions to resolve issues and conflicts in complex procurement projects.
• Maintain work programmes and schedules for ongoing and newly planned contracts.
• Participate in negotiations with senior supplier representatives; sign procurement orders within authorized limits and prepare submissions for higher‑value contracts.
• Conduct market research, analyse statistical data and commodity trends, and develop metrics for senior management.
• Identify new technologies, products and services, evaluate potential supply sources and recommend options.
