Political Intern

About the role

This unpaid six‑month internship is based at United Nations Headquarters in New York and supports the Europe and Central Asia Division’s Western Europe and Eastern Mediterranean team. The role offers hands‑on experience in political monitoring, research, and briefing preparation within the UN peace and security framework.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor media reports and political/security developments in the Western Europe and Eastern Mediterranean region.
• Conduct background research and analysis of relevant issues and trends.
• Follow and report on relevant United Nations Security Council and General Assembly meetings.
• Attend meetings and events, preparing concise summary notes.
• Provide logistical assistance in organizing meetings and events.
• Prepare briefing material for senior officials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or have completed a graduate programme, or be in the final academic year of a bachelor’s degree.
• Field of study closely related to political affairs, peacebuilding, international relations, or a similar discipline.
• No professional work experience required.
