About the role

The Southeastern Louisiana University Police Department is seeking a Police Sergeant to lead one of its uniform patrol shifts. This supervisory position oversees a team of Police Officers (levels 1‑3) and a Communications Officer, ensuring campus safety and effective law‑enforcement operations.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise a 12‑hour uniform patrol shift (5 am‑5 pm or 5 pm‑5 am) with rotating days off.
• Directly manage Police Officer 1, 2, 3 and a Communications Officer, handling scheduling, performance, and daily operations.
• Report to the Police Lieutenant – Uniform Patrol and coordinate with campus administration.
• Maintain compliance with civil service regulations, defensive‑driving certification, and firearm qualification requirements.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of law‑enforcement experience (or equivalent substitution with college credits).
• Valid Louisiana driver’s license and ability to obtain POST certification.
• Current Civil Service test score for the 2100‑PSE Protective Services Exam, or willingness to take the test.
• At least 18 years of age and eligibility for bond and firearm qualification.
