PEARLS Facilitator - Part-Time

About the role

Hofstra University School of Medicine is hiring a part-time PEARLS facilitator. PEARLS stands for Patient-centered Explorations in Active Reasoning, Learning, and Synthesis. The facilitator guides self-regulated learning and team dynamics in groups of 8-10 first- and/or second-year students, helping them learn key biomedical science concepts through real patient cases. The position requires 8-10 hours per week of student contact and faculty development.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate PEARLS sessions throughout the academic year, as needed.
• Attend faculty development meetings for PEARLS facilitators.
• Review weekly formative essay exams submitted by students in the facilitator's group.
• Meet individually with students in the group for mid-course feedback and as needed.
• Complete end-of-course student assessments.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• MD, DO, or PhD in a biomedical science discipline.
• Three years' experience teaching medical students or other health professions students.
• Ability to contribute to a multi-disciplinary educational environment and build positive working relationships with staff, faculty and students.

Required skills

• Computing experience and proficiency with MS Word and Outlook.
• Preferred: experience with Learning Management Systems.
