Patient Access Specialist

About the role

The Patient Access Specialist supports the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences by ensuring accurate preparation of scheduled appointments and facilitating smooth patient access. This frontline position enhances patient experience, operational efficiency, and revenue cycle performance through detailed pre‑service activities.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and reconcile the Daily Appointment Report to verify appointment details in the EHR.
• Complete pre‑service tasks such as insurance verification, referral authorization, documentation upload, and preregistration.
• Act as the subject‑matter expert for government payors, validating pre‑appointment requirements to reduce claim denials.
• Resolve patient access issues in billing work queues, correcting registration inaccuracies and demographic errors.
• Provide desk coverage and support business continuity as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with 4 years of relevant experience, or associate degree with 2 years of experience.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, with three years of patient registration, scheduling, or billing experience in a healthcare setting.
• CHAA certification is a plus.
