Part-Time Auction Market Inspector

About the role

The Georgia Department of Agriculture seeks a part‑time Auction Market Inspector to support the Livestock and Poultry Program. You will conduct on‑site inspections, collect samples, and help ensure animal health and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Perform inspections at livestock markets, flea markets, farms, and other animal gathering sites.
• Identify livestock to prevent disease and verify compliance with regulations.
• Respond to animal health complaints and emergencies.
• Monitor animal exhibitions for disease detection.
• Collect and transport samples from cattle, swine, sheep, goats, and poultry to the laboratory.
• Issue quarantines, permits, and prepare required reports.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, findings, and field actions.
• Cover auction market inspections on Saturdays.

Required profile

• Vocational or technical degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology, or a related field, OR a high school diploma/GED with relevant experience.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and handle intense smells and temperatures.
• Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 lb.
