Operator I – Sludge & Water Treatment

About the role

The Operator I is responsible for operating and maintaining sludge dewatering, processing, disposal and testing equipment at a refinery/industrial facility. The role ensures water is purified to meet customer specifications while adhering to processing and quality targets.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain pumps, engines, centrifuges, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed systems, odor control and disinfection equipment.
• Run sludge processing filters, belt presses, measuring/control devices and material handling equipment.
• Perform testing and quality checks on water treatment processes.
• Use computer programs for process control and data recording.
• Collaborate with team members and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
• Provide 24‑hour rotational emergency on‑call support when required.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to read, write and comprehend English operational, safety and quality instructions.
• Basic mathematical calculation skills.
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
• Willingness to pass a drug test and criminal background check.

Required skills

• Operation of pumps, engines, centrifuges, generators and related mechanical equipment.
• Experience with valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers and dryers.
• Knowledge of chemical feed, odor control, disinfection and sludge processing equipment.
• Proficiency with belt presses, filters, measuring/control devices and testing instruments.
• Use of computer‑based process control software.

• Salary range $90,000 – $130,000 per year, based on experience.
