NYSA Education Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking up to five unpaid NYSA Education Interns to support the Newcomer Youth Summer Academy, a six‑week program that prepares newly arrived immigrant youth for success in New York City public schools. Interns will work 15‑24 hours per week from June 1 to August 31, 2025, alternating between hybrid and on‑site schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Youth Education Supervisor with administrative tasks, including tracking teacher lesson‑plan submissions and reviewing lesson plans.
• Support classroom observations and communicate findings to the Student Support and Operations teams.
• Provide on‑site assistance to teachers as needed during instruction.
• For ESOL‑focused interns, help the Academic Lead Teacher create class materials and deliver instruction.
• Coordinate logistics for field trips and other program activities.

Required profile

• Enthusiastic about education and humanitarian work.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Comfortable working with diverse youth ages 5‑21 from many cultural backgrounds.
• Available to work the specified hours and dates.
