About the role
The Nuclear Facilities Engineer (Mechanical) supports LANL’s nuclear mission by ensuring that facility engineering requirements are met with precision, compliance, and performance. The role can be filled at Engineer 1 or Engineer 2 level depending on the candidate’s expertise.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain safety and security compliance, including required training and work‑stop authority.
- Apply nuclear facility engineering policies, procedures, and standards to research, data analysis, and regulatory change evaluation.
- Support performance and management of nuclear facility systems, safety features, and configuration using a risk‑based graded approach.
- Develop engineering analyses, designs, and deliverables that ensure safety, compliance, and mission success.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, and project teams to resolve issues and advance project execution.
- Assist with hazard and accident analyses, safety documentation, and ongoing facility operations for Hazard Category 2 and 3 nuclear facilities.
- Use engineering tools and methods, support procurement activities, and participate in peer reviews.
Required profile
- Mechanical engineering background with knowledge of nuclear safety management rules, DOE Orders, and relevant standards.
- Ability to work independently, lead or contribute within a specialized discipline, and integrate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong commitment to safety, security, and regulatory compliance.
