About the role
The Indianapolis Zoo is seeking a mechanically skilled individual to ensure the reliability and safety of its rides, specialty vehicles, and other equipment. This role supports the Zoo’s mission to protect nature and inspire visitors while delivering proactive, collaborative maintenance solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair rides, specialty vehicles, and other mechanical systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on rides, vehicles, and equipment.
- Assist the Facilities Manager in keeping operations safe, compliant, and reliable.
- Keep accurate maintenance and inspection records and support annual compliance inspections.
- Apply skills across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, welding, fabrication, and engine repair.
- Support general maintenance tasks in plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems as needed.
- Operate aerial lifts, forklifts, snow‑removal equipment, and manual‑transmission vehicles safely.
- Participate in seasonal event support and adjust schedules according to demand.
Required profile
- Minimum three years of experience in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, welding, or related trades.
- General maintenance experience in plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to lift 100 lb occasionally and 50 lb frequently; comfortable working at heights with fall protection.
- Valid Indiana driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 30 days) and insurable by Zoo policy.
- Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong commitment to safety, professionalism, and teamwork.
