Maintenance Mechanic

About the role

Celgard is looking for a Maintenance Mechanic to join its Maintenance team in Charlotte, NC. The role works the day shift (7 am – 7 pm) on a 2‑2‑3 schedule, with flexibility to cover off‑shifts when needed.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance, mechanical repairs, and troubleshooting on production and development equipment, especially plastic film extrusion lines.
• Complete and submit all required paperwork for equipment maintenance and safety protocols.
• Carry out minor equipment modifications, fabrications, and machine work such as welding, milling, lathe, and drill‑press operations.
• Support new equipment installations and train other maintenance personnel.
• Work collaboratively with engineering, operations, and manufacturing teams on cross‑functional projects.

Required profile

• High School diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Mechanical Technology preferred.
• At least 1 year of industrial mechanical maintenance experience (2‑3 years preferred) and formal industrial maintenance training.
• Ability to work at heights up to 30 ft, lift 30 lb, and operate forklifts, cherry pickers, and other material‑handling equipment.
• Willingness to travel up to 10 % domestically for training and site visits.

Required skills

• Preventative maintenance and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Welding, machine‑shop skills (milling, lathe, drill press).
• Operation of forklifts, portable hoists, cherry pickers, one‑man lifts.
• Knowledge of pneumatic systems and mechanical drive components (brakes, clutches, couplings, bearings, belts, chains, gears, sprockets).
• Experience with small centrifugal and positive‑displacement pumps, polymer extrusion equipment, and rigging techniques.
• Use of predictive tools such as infrared thermography and ultrasonic testing.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
