Long-Term Engineering Internship – Aircraft Structural Design

About the role

This internship supports aircraft structural design engineering activities, including design, static analysis, and fatigue/damage tolerance analysis for metallic or composite aircraft components.

Key responsibilities

• Perform design engineering tasks to support production and in‑service aircraft, such as part modeling, sizing, and layout maturation.
• Develop and detail data for trade studies, weight‑reduction efforts, and certification activities.
• Apply classical and finite‑element stress analysis methods to solve routine technical problems.
• Communicate progress, issues, and solutions to supervisors and collaborate with dynamic teams.
• Learn and apply engineering tool sets, including CAD and analysis software.

Required profile

• Current student pursuing a B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering with exposure to airframe design, static analysis, or CAD.
• Must be local to the Wichita, KS metro area for a multi‑semester onsite placement.
• Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
• Strong computer background; proficiency with MS Office and G‑Suite is a plus.
• Preferred: minor in Computer Science and prior experience with Airbus tools (CATIA, Isami, NASTRAN, PATRAN).

Required skills

• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools such as NASTRAN and PATRAN.
• CAD software including CATIA and Isami.
• 3D modeling, 2D drafting, Bill of Materials creation.
• Microsoft Office suite and Google Workspace.
