Legal Operations Lead – AI‑Native Legal Function

About the role

Cognition is building an AI‑native legal function for its AI‑first company. As the Legal Operations Lead you will design and run a modern, high‑velocity legal organization that leverages automation and AI to serve the business quickly and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Design and continuously improve the legal operating model, deciding which work is handled by lawyers, automated, or eliminated.
• Build intelligent intake, triage, workflow, and knowledge systems to resolve routine legal questions fast.
• Partner with technical teams to experiment with AI agents such as Devin, rethinking legal processes rather than merely adding AI.
• Create scalable, friction‑free processes that make legal support easy for Sales, Product, Engineering, Security, Finance, People, and Communications.
• Own legal technology strategy, including contracting, knowledge management, matter management, e‑billing, and entity management.
• Measure speed, outcomes, friction points, external spend, and team time to drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven ability to build and run high‑performing legal operations in fast‑growing tech environments.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on process optimization and automation.
• Excellent collaboration skills across cross‑functional teams.
• Experience managing budgets, outside counsel relationships, and legal technology platforms.
