About the role
The Office of Administration of Justice (OAJ) is seeking a motivated Legal Intern to support the Registries of the United Nations Dispute Tribunal (UNDT) and the United Nations Appeals Tribunal (UNAT) in New York. The internship lasts three to six months, full‑time, and offers the chance to work alongside judges and legal officers on real cases.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct legal research for use by Legal Officers and Judges.
- Draft and edit summaries of judgments for the OAJ case law portal.
- Summarize facts and parties' contentions for judicial consideration.
- Proof‑read, format, and finalize judgments, orders and related documents.
- Assist in the logistical preparation of hearings.
- Maintain databases and files, including the electronic Court Case Management System and SharePoint.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Registrar or Principal Registrar.
Required profile
- Enrolled in a graduate programme (or final year of a bachelor programme) in law, international relations or public administration.
- Demonstrated interest in United Nations work and commitment to the UN Charter.
- Ability to interact respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Willingness to work five days a week, 35 hours per week.
Required skills
- Computer literacy in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, SharePoint).
