Legal Assistant Project Specialist

About the role

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant Project Specialist to manage the full life‑cycle of subpoenas, court orders, and public records requests. This position provides specialized administrative and legal support within the Office of the General Counsel, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Process incoming subpoenas and court orders for the Custodian of Records.
• Coordinate records retrieval, review responsiveness, and ensure compliance with applicable rules.
• Execute advanced text, audio, and video redactions and produce compliant responsive records under strict deadlines.
• Manage complex Public Records Requests, clarify scope with requesters, and research internal files.
• Apply statutory exemptions using digital redaction tools and draft professional correspondence.
• Consult with the Office of General Counsel and the Arizona Attorney General’s Office on related litigation.
• Travel statewide on official business, including possible overnight stays.

Required profile

• Knowledge of Arizona statutes and guidelines governing public records.
• Understanding of administrative proceedings, litigation processes, and state/federal regulations affecting ADCRR operations.
• Familiarity with professional records management practices, retention schedules, and secure data storage.

Required skills

• Proficiency with records management systems.
• Experience using digital text, audio, and video redaction tools.
• Ability to interpret and fulfill complex legal requests such as subpoenas and discovery demands.
