Lease Accountant

About the role

The Lease Accountant supports the Senior Accountant – Lease Supervisor in maintaining accurate financial records for lease agreements across the organization. This role ensures compliance with ASC 842, prepares analytical work papers, and contributes to month‑end close and audit activities.

Key responsibilities

• Account for lease agreements, record new leases, and process modifications or renewals in accordance with ASC 842.
• Track, compile, and accrue triple‑net expenses for all U.S. and Canada stores.
• Reconcile and analyze general‑ledger balances, recommending corrective actions as needed.
• Create work papers and test vendor contracts for embedded lease components during annual non‑real‑estate contract evaluations.
• Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and analysis.
• Liaise with Real Estate and Legal teams to capture lease contract changes, rent payments, and related facility expenses.
• Assist month‑end closing by posting journal entries and generating variance reports within strict deadlines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• 0–2 years of accounting experience; lease accounting experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with GAAP and Sarbanes‑Oxley compliance.
• Experience in a retail environment preferred.
• CPA or CMA certification preferred.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ASC 842 lease accounting standards.
• Proficiency with Oracle Financials or other large ERP systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
• Understanding of GAAP and SOX compliance.
