Lead Software Engineer - Java Backend Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join JPMorgan Chase’s Consumer and Community Banking technology team. In this senior position you will guide an agile squad in designing, building and delivering secure, high-performance Java backend services that power market-leading banking products.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and troubleshoot Java 17+ applications, REST APIs and micro-services using Spring Boot.
• Write secure, production-grade code and perform peer reviews and debugging of team contributions.
• Champion enterprise-approved AI-assisted engineering tools for code review, test acceleration and incident analysis while establishing validation standards.
• Identify and automate remediation of recurring issues to improve operational stability.
• Lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups and internal teams to assess architectural designs and technical fit.
• Promote reuse of proven patterns and ensure compliance with secure coding, automated testing and resiliency requirements.

Required profile

• Formal training or certification in software engineering and at least 5 years of hands-on experience.
• Proven track record delivering system design, application development, testing and operational stability in a financial services environment.
• Experience leading teams in the adoption of AI-assisted development practices and setting expectations for AI output validation.
