Lab Technician – Metals & Minerals

About the role

The Laboratory Technician will support the Metals & Minerals lab by receiving, weighing and processing client samples, ensuring accurate analytical results while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Input, weigh and process incoming client samples following SOPs.
• Calibrate and operate laboratory equipment such as balances, moisture machines, drying ovens, LOI ovens and annealing ovens.
• Prepare reagents, manage acid waste, and maintain inventory of lab supplies.
• Perform analytical procedures including gravimetric analysis, precipitations, aqua regia digestions, salt fusions and X‑ray fluorescence (XRF) testing.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; further education preferred.
• Ability to lift 25‑50 lb and work in temperatures up to 90 °C.
• Commitment to safety, PPE use and compliance with OHS, ISO and internal policies.

Required skills

• Operation of laboratory balances, moisture analyzers, drying and LOI ovens.
• Use of the SORBY system and basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
• Experience with analytical techniques such as XRF, gravimetric, precipitation and acid digestion.
