Intelligence Research Specialist

About the role

The Intelligence Research Specialist supports multiple CGIC field offices and divisions by collecting, analyzing, evaluating, and disseminating intelligence on foreign and domestic trends that affect national security. The position operates at GS‑9, GS‑11, and GS‑12 levels, providing operational intelligence to case agents and senior specialists.

Key responsibilities

• Perform operational intelligence functions and routine tasks under senior guidance for moderate‑complex cases and high‑impact initiatives.
• Assist senior specialists with liaison services, debriefing sources, arrested individuals, and detainees to extract actionable intelligence.
• Collaborate with counterpart intelligence organizations to validate information, resolve issues, and produce statistical compilations.
• Prepare collection instructions, guides, and manuals for ATF entities and external partners.
• Conduct all‑source intelligence analysis, generate link, visual, and toll‑record analyses, and draft intelligence reports and briefings.
• Utilize computerized intelligence databases to store, retrieve, and report data for field and headquarters use.

Required profile

• Experience at GS‑9, GS‑11, or GS‑12 level within a federal intelligence or law‑enforcement environment.
• Ability to work under direction of senior specialists and coordinate with internal and external partners.
• Strong analytical mindset for identifying trends, patterns, and intelligence gaps.
