Info Security Analyst – Tier 2 SOC

About the role

The County of Orange is seeking a Tier 2 Security Analyst to join its Security Operations Center (SOC). The analyst will protect county assets, systems, and data by monitoring, investigating, and responding to security events.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor security events across networks and systems using SIEM tools.
• Mentor Tier 1 SOC analysts and guide incident investigations.
• Identify, investigate, and report potential security incidents.
• Support risk and vulnerability assessments at network, system, and application levels.
• Develop, maintain, and report cyber metrics and threat intelligence.
• Create and implement automation tasks to improve SOC efficiency.
• Research, evaluate, and recommend new security tools and technologies.
• Assist with compliance to government policies such as NIST.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience; 4 years preferred.
• Ability to pass LiveScan background check, drug screen, and departmental reviews.

Required skills

• Programming languages: Python, C++, JavaScript.
• Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) – experience with Sentinel or similar.
• IDS/IPS, firewalls, anti‑virus/anti‑malware technologies.
• Incident response and vulnerability management.
• Knowledge of NIST framework and security controls.
