Immediate Care Technician – Casual (Gurnee)

About the role

The Immediate Care Technician provides essential support to physicians and advanced practice providers in the Immediate Care Center at the Gurnee clinic. This casual position works 12‑hour shifts, ensuring smooth patient flow and high‑quality care in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Escort patients to exam rooms, verify identity with two identifiers, and prepare them for examination.
• Obtain and document accurate vital signs, allergies, smoking history, and pharmacy information.
• Notify the MD/APP of any significant changes in vital signs or acute symptoms promptly.
• Set up equipment and supplies needed for each visit and clean exam rooms for the next patient.
• Assist with referrals, transfers, discharge processes, and prescription call‑ins.
• Perform clinical tasks such as ECG, venipuncture, immunizations, wound care, splinting, specimen collection, and CLIA‑waived testing under provider direction.

Required profile

• Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
• Ability to work a minimum of three shifts within a six‑week period, including one weekend shift.
• Willingness to float to other clinics as needed.
• Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to Northwestern Medicine’s Code of Ethics.
