Housing Specialist – Refugee Support

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Housing Specialist to lead its Extended Cultural Orientation program and provide direct housing assistance to refugees and other ORR‑eligible immigrants in Louisville. This dual‑role position helps newcomers who have been in the U.S. for more than 90 days gain knowledge of critical systems and receive personalized housing support, fostering long‑term self‑sufficiency and community integration.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in designing and delivering the extended cultural orientation curriculum.
• Coordinate outreach, client invitations, interpreter scheduling, and class logistics.
• Conduct intake assessments, enroll clients, and develop individualized service plans.
• Provide ongoing case management to address housing needs and connect families with housing partners.
• Maintain relationships with housing providers to expand access for refugee families.
• Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers or interns as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by program leadership.

Required profile

• High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field preferred.
• Minimum two years of professional experience in human services, preferably with refugee or immigrant populations.
• Strong relationship‑building, diplomacy, and networking abilities.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
• Self‑starter with excellent problem‑solving, multitasking, and time‑management skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.

Required skills

• Fluency in English; additional language skills are a plus.
