Head of Consumer Communications

About the role

As the Consumer Communications Lead for North America at Canva, you will shape how millions of people perceive and talk about the brand. Reporting to the Global Communications team and working closely with the North America CMO, you will drive consumer storytelling, media relations and cultural engagement across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute proactive consumer storytelling strategies, campaigns and pitches to generate consistent media coverage.
• Grow Canva’s awareness, adoption and advocacy through strategic media relations and editorial storytelling.
• Identify and capitalise on cultural moments, seasonal opportunities and viral conversations to keep the brand top‑of‑mind.
• Build trusted relationships with reporters, producers, creators and influential voices across broadcast, print, digital, podcast and emerging platforms.
• Create data‑driven storytelling programmes using on‑ and off‑platform data to uncover compelling narratives and trends.
• Design and run virtual and in‑person media events, experiences and brand activations for creators, partners and journalists.
• Partner with global and regional teams to deliver internal communications initiatives across North America.
• Support global communications projects and ensure alignment with broader marketing efforts.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading consumer communications, media relations and brand storytelling in a large market.
• Strong understanding of cultural trends and ability to translate them into compelling narratives.
• Excellent relationship‑building skills with media, creators and industry influencers.
• Ability to collaborate closely with senior marketing leaders and cross‑functional teams.
