Hardware Engineering Technician

About the role

ButterflyMX is looking for a hands‑on Hardware Engineering Technician to support hardware assembly, testing, troubleshooting and repair across prototype and production devices. The role bridges electronics, validation, manufacturing operations and field reliability to ensure dependable access‑control products.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, modify and configure prototype and production hardware, including soldering, wiring, labeling and fixture setup.
• Execute electrical, functional, environmental and reliability tests, record results and report pass/fail outcomes.
• Diagnose failed assemblies and field returns, investigate mechanical, thermal and electrical failures, and document root‑cause analysis.
• Support quality processes such as supplier audits, defect investigations and corrective‑action verification.
• Maintain a safe, organized, ESD‑compliant lab, manage tools, fixtures and create work instructions.

Required profile

• Hands‑on electronics technician experience in engineering, manufacturing, test or repair environments.
• Ability to read schematics, drawings, work instructions and basic mechanical documentation.
• Strong documentation discipline for test records, repair notes, inspection findings and issue summaries.

Required skills

• Soldering and PCB assembly.
• Reading schematics and troubleshooting board‑level and system‑level issues.
• Familiarity with RS‑485, Wiegand, OSDP, Ethernet, USB, Wi‑Fi, BLE and cellular interfaces.
• Use of standard lab tools, test fixtures, environmental testing equipment and data logging.
• Knowledge of IPC workmanship standards, ESD controls and calibration procedures.

• Base salary range $85,000‑$95,000 per year, with potential bonuses and equity.
