Founding AI Research Scientist

About the role

Optexity is a product‑driven research lab that builds clinical reasoning and computer‑use models on proprietary data from real hospital and clinic workflows. As a founding AI Research Scientist you will shape the research agenda, work directly with the founders, and turn open‑ended ideas into working models.

Key responsibilities

• Work with real, proprietary clinical data to generate insights that guide model and product direction.
• Design and build clinical reasoning models that improve physician and clinic workflows.
• Create and publish benchmarks exposing gaps in current LLMs for clinical reasoning.
• Evaluate computer‑use models on real‑world tasks.
• Own the end‑to‑end training and evaluation pipeline.
• Take open‑ended problems from concept to deployed model with minimal predefined structure.
• Document findings in technical reports and peer‑reviewed papers.

Required profile

• Demonstrated research experience: can define problems and execute novel solutions.
• Experience training models (beyond fine‑tuning APIs) and fluency in Python.
• Master’s degree or higher in machine learning or a related field.
• Thrives in ambiguous, open‑ended environments and wants to publish research.
• Self‑starter who takes ownership without needing constant guidance.
• Motivated to work in a fast‑moving startup rather than a large tech company.
