About the role

The University of Arkansas at Monticello is looking for a Forest Assistant to help manage its timberlands. This non‑student, temporary position involves hands‑on forest work, including timber marking, equipment operation, and herbicide application. The role is onsite, offers a wage of $11 per hour, and provides the chance to work directly in a natural timberland environment while supporting university forest management activities.

Key responsibilities

• Mark and cruise timber to support inventory and planning efforts.
• Operate a tractor and other state‑owned vehicles safely and efficiently.
• Apply herbicides according to prescribed guidelines and safety protocols.
• Mark boundary lines and assist with basic mechanical repairs on equipment.
• Collect and record data related to timber and forest conditions.
• Maintain equipment cleanliness and follow all safety and environmental procedures.

Required profile

• Ability to operate a state vehicle and tractor.
• Some prior experience with tractor operation or similar equipment.
• Physical ability to perform outdoor, manual tasks.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable attendance.
• Willingness to work flexible hours as needed.
